As part of the extension activity, students visited the IRCS Blood Centre of the Indian Red Cross Society on March 18th, 2026, to gain practical knowledge about blood banking and its importance in healthcare services. The visit aimed to provide students with an opportunity to observe the functioning of a blood bank and understand the process involved in blood donation and transfusion services.
During the visit, students were introduced to the procedures of blood collection, testing, storage, and distribution. The staff explained how donated blood is carefully screened for safety and separated into different components such as red blood cells, plasma, and platelets for various medical uses. Students also learned about different blood groups and compatibility required for safe transfusions.
The visit helped create awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation and how donated blood helps save the lives of patients during surgeries, accidents, and medical emergencies. Students were also informed about the safety measures and hygiene practices followed in the blood bank to ensure safe blood transfusions.
Overall, the extension activity provided students with practical exposure to healthcare services, enhanced their knowledge about blood donation, and encouraged them to develop a sense of social responsibility and humanitarian values. In total 26 students participated in the extension activity.
