Awareness Session on “Cyber Crime and Digital Safety”

The Department of Chemistry, in association with the Youth Red Cross of Canara College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, organized an awareness session on “Cyber Crime and Digital Safety” on September 9, 2026. The programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness among students about the growing threats in the digital world and the importance of responsible and safe use of technology.
The session was handled by Mr. Chirag C. Suvarna, Assistant Manager, Cybersecurity Consultant, and Cybersecurity Trainer. He provided valuable insights into various forms of cybercrime and discussed practical measures for protecting personal information and digital accounts.
The resource person highlighted common cyber threats such as online fraud, phishing, identity theft, malicious links, password attacks, social engineering, and misuse of personal information. He explained how cybercriminals often deceive users through emails, messages, phone calls, and fake websites.
The students were also sensitized to the importance of using strong and unique passwords, two-factor authentication, secure browsing practices, regular software updates, and privacy settings. Emphasis was placed on being cautious before clicking unknown links, sharing personal details, downloading files, or responding to suspicious communications. In total, 53 students actively participated in the programme.
