Session on “Decode Your Skin: Common Skin Problems in Young Adults

Youth Red Cross and National Service Scheme of our college in association with Yenepoya Specialty Hospital under the MOU organized an awareness on Session on “Decode Your Skin: Common Skin Problems in Young Adults” for the Youth Red Cross (YRC) volunteers of the college. The session was conducted with the objective of creating awareness among students about common skin problems, different skin types, and the importance of proper skin care and hygiene.

The resource person for the session was Dr. Malcolm Pinto, Professor and HOD, Dept. of Dvl, Yenapoya (Deemed to be University), who shared valuable insights on skin health. He explained that skin is the largest organ of the human body and plays an important role in protecting the body from infections and environmental damage.

During the session, the doctor discussed the common skin problems faced by young adults, such as acne, pimples, allergies, pigmentation, fungal infections, dandruff, and sun damage. He explained the causes of these conditions, which include hormonal changes, poor hygiene, unhealthy food habits, stress, excessive use of cosmetic products, and exposure to pollution.

Further, he gave useful guidance on treatment and care for skin problems. He advised students not to self-medicate or blindly follow social media remedies and instead consult qualified dermatologists when necessary. He emphasized maintaining proper hygiene, drinking sufficient water, eating a balanced diet, and using mild and suitable skin care products.The doctor also spoke about preventive measures to protect the skin. He suggested simple practices such as washing the face regularly, avoiding excessive exposure to sunlight, using sunscreen, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and reducing stress.

The session was very informative and interactive. Students actively participated by asking questions regarding their skin concerns, and the doctor clarified their doubts with practical suggestions.The session helped students understand the importance of skin health and encouraged them to adopt healthy habits to prevent skin problems. Session attended by a total of 114 YRC and NSS volunteers.
