The Youth Red Cross of our college organized a ‘Session on Menstrual Health and Hygiene’ for YRC Volunteers on November 25, 2025, in the seminar hall at 3.30 p.m. Dr. Nireeksha G Shetty in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, was the resource person.
The Session was designed to enhance participants’ knowledge and understanding of menstruation and the menstrual cycle while promoting healthy menstrual hygiene practices. During the session, participants were provided with clear and age-appropriate explanations of how the menstrual cycle works, helping them develop a scientific understanding of the changes that occur in the body.
The facilitator then guided participants through proper menstrual hygiene habits, including the correct use of sanitary products, the importance of regular changing, proper hand washing before and after handling menstrual materials, and safe methods of disposal. Practical demonstrations and visual aids were used to ensure clarity and build confidence in managing menstruation independently.
The session also emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness to prevent infections and safeguard overall reproductive health. Students learned how good hygiene practices can reduce discomfort, prevent health issues, and contribute to their overall well-being. Through interactive discussions and question-and-answer segments, the activity created a supportive environment where participants could freely seek clarification and strengthen their understanding of menstrual health. In total, 40 students actively participated in the program.
