AWARENESS SESSION ON “KNOW YOUR RIGHTS – UNDERSTANDING THE POSH ACT”

A session on “Know Your Rights: Understanding the POSH Act” was organized for the Second Year studentson March 10, 2026 at 1:30 PM in the Seminar Hall. The program aimed to create awareness among students about their rights and the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful environment in educational institutions and workplaces.

The resource person for the session was Dr. Deviprabha Alva, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, St. Agnes (Autonomous) College, Mangaluru, and a Certified Trainer of POSH. She shared her knowledge and expertise on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act and its relevance in today’s society.

During the session, Dr. Deviprabha Alva explained the objectives and key provisions of the POSH Act. She discussed what constitutes sexual harassment, the rights of individuals, and the responsibilities of institutions in preventing and addressing such issues. She also highlighted the importance of awareness, respect, and gender sensitivity in creating a safe environment for everyone.

To make the session more engaging and impactful, the resource person also played a few videos depicting different forms of sexual harassment and real-life situations. These videos helped students better understand how harassment can occur in various contexts and the appropriate ways to respond to such situations.

Dr. Deviprabha Alva further elaborated on the complaint mechanism under the POSH Act, the role of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), and the procedures to be followed while reporting incidents. She encouraged students to be aware of their rights and to support a culture of dignity and equality.

Ms. Ananya Baliga of I B.Com B welcomed and introduced the resource person to the gathering. A total of 69 students, along with the staff conveners Mrs. Ashalatha and Ms. Rithika S Das, participated in this session.
