A session on consumer awareness: informed purchasing, rights, and redressal in anticipation of National Consumer Rights Day

In anticipation of National Consumer Rights Day, the Centre for PG Studies in Commerce, Canara College, organized a session on Consumer Awareness: Informed Purchasing, Rights & Redressal on December 19, 2025, for M.Com students. The programme was graced by Chief Guest Mrs. Lavina S. Noronha, Assistant Professor in Commerce and faculty coordinator of the consumer forum, Canara College, who emphasized the importance of consumers being responsible while shopping. Resource Person Ms. Meghana G. Rao, Sanskrit Educator, Sharada Vidyalaya, and alumna of the M.Com Department of Canara College, delivered an insightful session covering the rights of consumers, the principles of informed purchasing, and the procedures for seeking redressal. Mrs. Swathi Nayak, PG Coordinator, M.Com Department, briefed the gathering on the importance of consumer education in today’s marketplace.
The programme was skillfully coordinated with Ms. Vismitha from I M.Com serving as the Master of Ceremony. Ms. Chaitanya from I M.Com delivered the welcome speech, setting a positive tone for the session. Ms. Preethi from II M.Com proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries and participants. The interactive session witnessed active participation from 57 students who engaged enthusiastically with the speakers, gaining valuable insights into their rights and responsibilities as consumers in the modern economy.
