The Department of Kannada, Canara College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, organized an educational and social awareness visit to Snehalaya Old Age Home and Rehabilitation Centre, Bachalike, Manjeshwar, on August 15, 2026, under the guidance of Mrs. Vani U. S., Head of the Department of Kannada, and Mr. Pradeepa B., Assistant Professor.
A total of 32 I BCA Kannada language students participated in the visit. As a gesture of care and social responsibility, the students contributed essential grocery items, including rice, fruits, and other necessary provisions, to Snehalaya. During the visit, the students had an interactive conversation with the Founder of Snehalaya, Brother Joseph Crasta. He shared valuable information about the establishment, objectives, journey, and rehabilitation activities of the institution. The interaction helped students understand the importance of compassion, dignity, care, acceptance, and human relationships.
Prof. Dejamma A., Head of the Department of Commerce, who presided over the programme, spoke about the significant ideas and values reflected in Bhyrappa’s works and encouraged students to develop a lasting interest in literature and apply its values in their lives.
The students also interacted with the residents and spent meaningful time with them. The visit provided a valuable experiential learning opportunity and helped students develop empathy, social awareness, and a sense of social responsibility.
