The Department of Kannada, Canara College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, organized ‘Bhyrappa Namana Programme’ on August 20, 2026, to commemorate the birth anniversary of renowned Kannada novelist S. L. Bhyrappa. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Smt. Vani U. S., Head of the Department of Kannada, and Mr. Pradeepa B., Assistant Professor. The programme was held at Smt. Ratna S. Shenoy Memorial Hall.
The programme was addressed by Prof. Anila Kamath, Principal, Canara Evening College, who highlighted the rationality, scientific outlook, logical thinking, and realistic vision reflected in Bhyrappa’s literature. She emphasized the importance of developing reading habits and understanding life through literature.
Prof. Dejamma A., Head of the Department of Commerce, who presided over the programme, spoke about the significant ideas and values reflected in Bhyrappa’s works and encouraged students to develop a lasting interest in literature and apply its values in their lives.
Student Manisha shared her views on the life and literary personality of S. L. Bhyrappa. The programme provided students with an opportunity to understand Bhyrappa’s literary contribution and reflect on the relevance of literature in contemporary life. Total 70 Students participated in this programme. The activity promoted the core values of Contribution to National Development, Inculcating Value System, and Quest for Excellence amongst the participants.
