The “Kannada – Tulu Wikilearn – Wikipedia Workshop” was conducted on March 14, 2026, at Computer Lab – 5, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM in collaboration of Department of Computer Science and Applications& Tulu Sangha. The programme was presided over by Dr. Premalatha V., Principal, Canara College, Mangaluru. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr.Anoop Rao, Admin and Technical Editor of Wikimedia, who also served as the Resource Person.
The Chief Guest, Mrs.Smitha M., Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, addressed the gathering and emphasized that it is a meaningful programme contributing to learning and personal development. She highlighted that “if language survives, culture survives, and culture helps protect society.” She encouraged students to safeguard language and culture and actively contribute to digital platforms like Wikipedia to share knowledge globally. Mrs. Babitha S., Head of the Department of BCA, delivered an introductory speech on Wikipedia and its importance in today’s digital era.
In his address, the resource person Mr. Anoop Rao encouraged students to take full advantage of the workshop and actively participate in content creation. During the Presidential Address, Dr. Premalatha V. remarked that the world has evolved significantly—from earlier days of referring to books for knowledge to today’s instant access through digital platforms. She stressed the importance of authenticity and responsibility while uploading content online.
The programme began with a prayer rendered by Moksha (I BCA C). The Master of Ceremony was Vaishunu (III BCA B), and the Welcome Speech was delivered by Vikas Shetty (II BCA B). The workshop sessions included hands-on training in Wikipedia account creation, article writing, editing, formatting, and referencing in Kannada and Tulu languages. A total of 30 Students actively participated and gained practical exposure to Wikimedia platforms. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Thrisha (I BCA C).
