The Department of Mathematics organized a guest talk as part of the “International Pi Day” Celebration on March 14, 2026, in Room 35. The aim of the program was to inspire students to appreciate the significance of π and its wide-ranging applications, while fostering a deeper interest in mathematics and analytical thinking.
Dr. Anupriya Shetty, Head of the Department of Mathematics at St. Aloysius College (Deemed to be University), served as the resource person for the program. In her address, she highlighted the importance of π in mathematics, explaining its historical development, its role in geometry and scientific calculations, and its practical applications in fields such as engineering, technology, and data analysis. She also emphasized the need to cultivate analytical and problem-solving skills among students, encouraging them to explore mathematical concepts beyond the classroom and apply them in real-life situations.
As part of an interactive session, the final M.Sc. students of St. Aloysius College conducted several activities for our students, making the program engaging, interactive, and enjoyable. They also demonstrated how online tools and applications such as LaTeX and Desmos can be effectively used in project work, helping students enhance their learning and apply mathematical concepts in practical tasks.
The event was planned and executed by Mrs. Keerthi K., Head of the Department of Mathematics, and Mrs. Poornima, Assistant Professor in Mathematics. The program began with an invocation rendered by Ms. Sugama Priya and Ms. Jeevitha of III B.Sc.
Ms. Janisha of III B.Sc. welcomed the gathering and introduced the guest, while the program was compered by Ms. Sharanya of III B.Sc. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Ananya of III B.Sc. A total of 35 students participated in the program and benefited from the session.
- Students learned to use online tools such as LaTeX and Desmos for project work, enhancing their practical skills and ability to apply mathematical concepts effectively.
- Students gained a deeper understanding of the significance of π, its applications in mathematics and real-life contexts, and the value of analytical and problem-solving skills.
- This program strived to achieve the core values of Fostering Global Competency, Promoting the Use of Technology, and Quest for Excellence by encouraging students to apply modern mathematical tools, engage with advanced concepts, and enhance their practical and analytical skills.
