SEMINAR ON MATHEMATICAL WONDERS OF THE VEDAS

August 19, 2025

The Department of Mathematics organized a seminar on Mathematical Wonders of the Vedas” on August 19, 2025, for the final-year B.Sc. students. The event was conducted in Lecture Hall No. 33. The main aim of the seminar was to highlight the mathematical knowledge embedded in the Vedas and to inspire appreciation for India’s intellectual heritage by showcasing its relevance in modern problem-solving and logical thinking.

Dr. Mahesh K. B., Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Government First Grade College, Vamadapadavu, was the resource person for the seminar. In his session, he gave a brief introduction to the Vedas, highlighting not only their spiritual and philosophical significance but also their application in solving mathematical problems. He introduced the sutras of Vedic Mathematics and explained how they can be applied to solve problems in a simpler and faster way—sometimes even more efficiently than calculators. The session was highly interactive and insightful, helping students develop a keen interest in learning the shortcuts and techniques of Vedic Mathematics.

The seminar supported the goals of the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) initiative by showing the scientific and mathematical ideas found in the Vedas. It helped students connect traditional knowledge with modern problem-solving and encouraged them to value India’s heritage in today’s world.

The seminar was planned and coordinated by Mrs. Keerthi K., Head of the Department of Mathematics, and Mrs. Poornima, Assistant Professor of Mathematics. Ms. Ananya G. Shetty of III B.Sc. welcomed and introduced the guests, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Meghana of III B.Sc. A total of 34 students were benefited by the program.

  • Students gained awareness of the mathematical concepts in the Vedas, their cultural significance, and India’s rich intellectual heritage.
  • This activity understood how Vedic techniques can simplify complex calculations, enhance problem-solving skills, and encourage their application in academics and daily life.
  • This activity achieved the core values of Contribution to National Development and Fostering Global Competency.
