BLOOD DONATION CAMP-2025

A Blood Donation Camp was organized on October 27, 2025, by the National Service Scheme, Red Ribbon Club, and Youth Red Cross of Canara College in collaboration with Lions Club, Ashoknagar, Mangaluru, HDFC Bank Ltd., Mangaluru, Indian Red Cross Society, Lady Goschen Hospital, Mangaluru, and Pranava Charitable Trust (R.), Yeyyadi, Mangaluru. The inaugural ceremony was held at 9.30 A.M. at Smt. Ratna S. Shenoy Memorial Hall.

The camp was inaugurated by CA Shantharam Shetty, Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, who emphasized the importance of voluntary blood donation as a noble act of saving lives. He highlighted that the collected blood would be donated to Govt. Lady Goschen Hospital, Mangaluru for needy patients, free of charge.

The Guest of honour of the program, Ln. N.J. Nagesh Kumar MJF, District Coordinator of Blood Donation and the organizer of 274 Blood Donation Camps, enlightened the students about the significance of blood donation, the eligibility criteria for donors, and cleared several misconceptions. He remarked that “one unit of blood can save three lives,” inspiring participants to come forward as donors.

Another Guest of Honour, Sri. G. R. Prasad, President of Pranava Charitable Trust (R.), highlighted the benefits of donating blood.

Dr. Premalatha V., Principal of Canara College, in her Presidential Address, expressed that blood donation is one of the noblest deeds and a true act of service to humanity, encouraging everyone to take part in such life-saving initiatives.

Other distinguished guests gracing the occasion were Dr. Deepthi Nayak, Administrative Officer, Ln. Prashanth B. Shetty, President, Lions Club, Ashoknagar, Mangalutu, Ms. Laxmi Upaksha, Manager, WBO Department, HDFC Bank, Mangaluru and Ln. G. Prashanth Pai, Vice President, Pranava Charitable Trust (R.), Yeyyadi, Mangaluru.

The camp was successfully coordinated by Mrs. Sushama C. and Mrs. Smitha M., NSS Programme Officers, Mrs. Laxmi Hegde and Mr. Karthik, Asst. NSS Programme Officers, and Mrs. Rashmi YRC Programme Officer.

A total of 173 registrations were recorded, and 109 units of blood were collected during the camp. The donated blood was handed over to Government Lady Goschen Hospital, Mangaluru, for the benefit of needy patients.

  • Many first-time donors expressed willingness to donate blood regularly in the future.
  • Donors underwent basic health check-ups like blood pressure and hemoglobin tests, increasing health awareness.
  • The camp strengthened collaboration between the institution and local health organizations and blood banks.
  • The activity fostered a spirit of service, social responsibility, and national development among volunteers.
