CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME ON “PRIORITIZING MENTAL WELL BEING TO BE A BETTER YOU”

On October 11, 2025, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Canara College, in collaboration with the Lions Club Mangalore, organized a Capacity-Building Program titled “Prioritizing Mental Well-Being to be a Better YOU” at 10:30 A.M. in the college Seminar Hall.

The program was inaugurated by Mr. Kudpi Arvind Shenoy, PMJF, Lion District Governor, 317D. The Chief Guest was Lion Rajesh Kamath, MJF, President of Lions Club, Mangalore,Dr. Premalatha V., Principal of the college, presided over the event. Lion Goverdhan Shetty, MJF, II Vice District Governor, was the Guest of Honour, while Dr. Deepti Nayak, Administrator, was also present.

During the inaugural session, the dignitaries shared valuable insights on the significance of mental well-being. Mr. Kudpi Arvind Shenoy emphasized that mental well-being is not a luxury, but a necessity in today’s fast-paced world, and expressed pride in institutions like Canara College for prioritizing this vital issue. Lion Rajesh Kamath highlighting the Lions Club’s commitment to community welfare stated, “Building stronger communities begins with mentally strong individuals…. and such collaboration is a step towards nurturing emotionally resilient youth.” Dr. Premalatha V., in her presidential address, stated that the Institute’s aim is not just academic excellence, but also holistic development,” and appreciated the role of such programmes in shaping emotionally healthy students.

The session was led by Dr. Rameela Shekhar, a renowned Mental Health Professional from Manashanthi, Mangaluru, who conducted an engaging and interactive session on the importance of prioritizing mental well-being. She discussed the growing challenges related to mental health among students and shared practical coping strategies. A total of 76 participants including 65 students and 11 faculty members participated in this programme. The programme concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students and faculty had the opportunity to engage directly with the expert speaker. Feedback received was overwhelmingly positive, with students expressing a sense of encouragement and emotional empowerment.
