The Centre for Post-Graduation Studies in Commerce organized “Consumer Connect: M.Com Outreach for Market Awareness” on December 26, 2025, coordinated by Mrs. Swathi Nayak, PG Coordinator, M.Com Department, under the guidance of Dr. Premalatha V., Principal, Canara College, Mangaluru. Eighteen students from II M.Com participated in this community outreach initiative aimed at spreading consumer awareness among shoppers in and around Mangaluru. With prior permission from the proprietors of various supermarkets, the students visited multiple retail locations to directly engage with customers and educate them about their consumer rights and responsibilities.
During the outreach programme, students interacted with consumers and guided them on essential shopping practices such as checking MRP, verifying the date of manufacture and expiry date, reading ingredient labels, understanding warranty provisions, and the procedures for seeking redressal in case of grievances. The students effectively communicated the importance of being informed and vigilant consumers, emphasizing how these practices protect their rights and ensure quality purchases. The initiative received positive responses from both the supermarket management and customers, with many expressing appreciation for the valuable information shared. This hands-on experience not only benefited the general public but also enhanced the students’ practical knowledge and communication skills while fostering a sense of social responsibility.
