The Department of Business Administration, Canara College, Mangaluru, organized a workshop on “Basics of Research Methodology” on April 2, 2025. The session aimed to equip students with fundamental knowledge and skills required for conducting research in academic and professional settings.
Mrs. Shwetha Pai, Lecturer at the Centre for PG Studies in Commerce, Canara College, served as the resource person for the workshop. The workshop began with a welcome address by the Head of the Department Mrs. Seema Prabhu S., highlighting the importance of research skills in higher education and professional careers. Mrs. Shwetha Pai started the session with an overview of research and its significance. She elaborated on the types of research methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative approaches. The session covered various aspects such as:
• Identifying research problems and setting objectives.
• Understanding research design and methodology.
• Data collection techniques – primary and secondary data.
• Importance of literature review and citation styles.
• Ethical considerations in research.
The session was interactive, with 38 students actively participating in discussions and clarifying doubts. The resource person provided practical insights and examples to help students understand the application of research methods in real-world scenarios. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Greeshma, expressing gratitude to the resource person for her valuable insights and to the organizing committee for making the workshop a success. Overall, the workshop provided a solid foundation for students aspiring to undertake research in their academic and professional journeys.
