Departmental Orientation to the First-Year BCA students

The Department of Computer Science and Applications organized a Departmental Orientation Program for the first-year BCA students on July 30, 2025, at 12:00 PM in the Seminar Hall. The objective of the program was to familiarize the students with the academic structure, institutional guidelines, and various opportunities available for their holistic development during the course of study.
The program commenced with a heartfelt prayer led by the students, setting a positive tone for the session. This was followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Ms. Pratiksha Shetty, Lecturer, who greeted the newly admitted students of the 25th batch and officially welcomed them into the BCA family.
Mrs. Babitha S., Head of the Department, elaborated on the objectives and expected outcomes of the program. She provided an overview of the syllabus structure, college and departmental rules, the role of mentors, and the teaching-learning methodologies adopted by the department. Additionally, she discussed various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities offered by the college, highlighted the library and laboratory facilities, and explained the admission process, fee payment procedures, and examination enrollment through the UUCMS portal. She also introduced the SEP system.
Further, Mrs. Rajyalaxmi, Assistant Professor, presented the guidelines for the term examinations and university examinations, while Mrs. Adithi Nayak, Assistant Professor, shared details regarding attendance requirements.
Mr. Karthik P.D. addressed the students on the importance of sports and physical activities and also briefed them on college rules and discipline.
The session also featured orientations on various student-centric initiatives:
•Mrs. Keerthana Bhat, Convenor of the NSS unit, spoke on the objectives and benefits of student participation in NSS.
•Mrs. Roopashree, Convenor of YRC, briefed the students on the aims and advantages of joining YRC.
•Mrs. Savitha D., Rovers and Rangers Coordinator, introduced the objectives and activities of the Rovers and Rangers Unit.
•Mrs. Vinutha, Assistant Professor, oriented students about online and MOOC courses for skill enhancement.
The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Mrs. Manjula N., Lecturer, expressing gratitude to all resource persons, faculty members, and students for making the program a success.
During the occasion, lab programmers Mrs. Amitha, Ms. Meghana, Ms. Chaithra Shetty, Ms. Thanushree, Mr. Hemanth, and Lab Attender Sri. Sudesh Kumar were in attendance. Mr. Karthik and Mr. Hemant provided technical assistance throughout the session. In total, 140 first-year BCA students participated in the program and were subsequently added to the official WhatsApp group through a QR code.
