Educational Field Visit

Animal husbandry is concerned with animals that are raised for value-added products.
An educational field visit to Krishi Vijnana Kendra, Mangaluru, and the College of Fisheries, Mangaluru, was organized on December 11, 2023, for III B.Sc. students to gain practical knowledge on dairy farming, poultry farming, piggery, and pisciculture.


The students visited Krishi Vijnana Kendra, Mangaluru, to understand the various aspects of dairy farming, poultry farming, and piggery. The visit began with a talk by the facilitator, Dr. Shivakumar R. on the topic of breeds of livestock, followed by a visit to the farms. The students noted housing and management, feeding, and raising of dairy, poultry, and pigs. They also noted the breeds of cattle and pigs.
The study on fish rearing was carried out at the College of Fisheries, Yekkur, Mangaluru. Students visited all departments of the college to learn about the taxonomical study of fish, aquatic environment management, culture, feed, disease identification and management, and diagnostics of diseases. The campus visit was facilitated by Dr. Amodh, Lecturer, Department of Aquaculture.


The educational field visit met all its objectives, as it was designed to cover the most essential components of animal husbandry and to meet the educational curriculum. Altogether, 17 students actively participated.
