AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON HIV/AIDS

In order to catalyze a movement and create a world where every youth, regardless of their socio-economic, cultural, or geographic background, is empowered with comprehensive knowledge and tools to prevent HIV/AIDS, reduce stigma, and promote a safe and inclusive environment for all, an awareness programme was organized by the Red Ribbon Club and NSS Units of Canara College in association with DAPCU and Lions Club, Kadri Hills, MJF, Mangaluru, on December 13, 2023, in the College Seminar Hall.

Dr. Basavaprabhu, Senior Consultant, KMC, Mangaluru was the Resource Person for the programme. He created awareness among the volunteers about the risks, transmission methods, prevention strategies, and stigma associated with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Further, he also explained about its impact on health, and the importance of early detection, testing, and treatment. At the end of his talk, he encouraged questions from the students and guests. The question and answer session concluded with a slogan- “Together WE Can Stop HIV”. The winners of article writing competition on HIV/ AIDS were honored during the programme.
The esteemed guests gracing the occasion were President Ln Dr. Vinod Prabhu, Sec. Ln Vidya Kamath, Treasurer Ln Sandhya Sujith, Ln Sujith Kumar, Ln Rathnakar, Ln Sumithra Shetty. Mrs. Seema Prabhu S., Mrs. M. Keerthana Bhat, the RRC and NSS Programme Officers and Mr. Shubham, the Assistant NSS Programme Officer coordinated the awareness programme. 113 Volunteers benefitted from this programme.
In short, the awareness programme strived to leverage the power of peer influence to disseminate information effectively and promote healthy behaviors.
