November 10, 2023

The Centre for PG Studies in Commerce conducted a competition titled ‘fraud fence competition-fortifying finances’ on November 10, 2023, in M.Com class room no.10. The said competition was conducted for the students of the M.Com final with a finance specialization. The competition was hosted with the objective of enhancing participants’ analytical and critical thinking skills by requiring them to delve deep into the details of the financial scam, including its root causes, execution, and consequences.
There have been several notable financial scams in India over the years. Students were asked to explain in detail any such scam. To name a few: Harshad Mehta Scam (1992), Satyam Scam (2009), Saradha Chit Fund Scam (2013), and so on. Competitions or discussions on such topics often focus on understanding the modus operandi, the role of regulatory bodies, and proposing solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Mr. Akshay K. Shet, sales manager at Motilal Oswal, Mangaluru Branch, judged the students presentation and, following that, gave insights to the audience regarding precautions to be taken in the stock market and explained about mutual funds and systematic investment plans. Additionally, he inspired the pupils to begin saving money and investing at a young age. The target beneficiaries were 60 in number.
