Canara College celebrated its College Day on April 19, 2023. Union Day was celebrated in the morning with Dr. Rashmi K, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, Alva’s College as the chief guest who unfurled the College Flag with all gratefulness to her Alma mater and cherishing the illustrious vision of our great Founder Late Sri Ammembal Subba Rao Pai. In her address, she gave a call to the students to set goals in life in their student days and work towards reaching the goals through hard work and dedication. The Chief Guest, Dr. Rashmi K, and Shri. K Shivananda Shenoy, Manager, Canara College honored the Prize winners. CA M. Jagannath Kamath, Correspondent, Canara College presided over the function. Dr. Premalatha V., Principal, Canara College, Mrs. Anila, Principal, Canara Evening College and Student Welfare Mentors, Mrs. Sushma R Shetty, Ms. Madhushree and Mrs. Swathi Nayak were also present.
Mr. Abhin Bangera, President of the Students’ Council welcomed the gathering. Mr. Amogh Baliga, Secretary, Students’ Council presented a report on the activities of the Students’ Welfare Council for the year 2022-23. Ms. Devika, PG Scholar of the Students’ Council, proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Ananya of III B.Com compered the program.
This training helped the students in developing critical thinking skills. Various activities were conducted by the resource person for the students to understand and be able to use a process of decision-making. This programme helped the students in developing the vital skills that a leader should have to become more effective.
College Day celebration was held in the evening with Shri Vasudev Kamath, President, Canara High School Association as the chief guest. Mrs. Vaishnavi Kamath honored the prize winners. Shri M. Ranganath Bhat, Hon. Secretary, C.H.S Association, presided over the function. The Annual Report of the college showcasing the activities of the institution over the last academic year was presented by the Principal, Dr. Premalatha V. Mr. Vikesh, Rank holder in BSc 2022 was honoured and he proposed the toast.
Mrs. Sushma R Shetty, Student Welfare Mentor welcomed the gathering. Mrs. Swathi Nayak, Student Welfare Mentor, proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Ganesh Shetty, Assistant Professor in political science compered the program. CA M. Jagannath Kamath, Correspondent of Canara College, Shri. K Shivananda Shenoy, Manager, Canara College, Mrs. Anila, Principal, Canara Evening College, and other members of the Governing Council were also present on the occasion.
The stage was then set for a variety of entertainment programs by the students, as they displayed their talent in front of a vibrant and enthusiastic audience. The cultural evening began with a Bharatanatyam Dance performance as a medium of expression of prayer. The activities performed on the occasion included various forms of dance and skit, songs under different styles, musical performances and Yakshagana. The audience comprising students, faculty, parents, and alumni enjoyed the program with great zeal. 1300 students participated in the program. This program strived to inculcate the core values such as fostering global competencies among students, inculcating value systems among students and a quest for excellence.
