Online learning is taking the world by storm, providing students with the flexibility to learn anywhere, anytime. A session titled “Introductory Session on SWAYAM” was conducted by the Centre for Post-Graduate Studies in Commerce on December 12, 2022 at 3.10 pm. SWAYAM courses are available through the SWAYAM online learning programme. This is an effective platform for students from all over the country to access quality education. It offers a range of courses in different fields, from school-level to post-graduate courses. The resource person, Mrs. Smitha M., Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce and Management of our college, began the session by describing the enrollment process. Following that, information on the course registration procedure, online classes, video tutorials, online materials, exam requirements, etc. was provided.
The session highlighted the benefits of online learning such as its convenience and cost-effectiveness. Students can access their course material and lectures at any time, and can study at their own pace. They can also access the material and lectures from anywhere, so they can learn even when they are travelling. The cost of online courses is much lower than that of traditional courses, making it more affordable for students. It also discussed the various challenges associated with online learning. These include lack of face-to-face interaction with teachers and peers, difficulty in self-motivation, and lack of access to resources. The resource person guided the students on how these challenges can be addressed with effective assistance and support from the online platform. Total 43 M. Com students participated in the session. The session aimed at fulfilling the core values such as fostering global competencies and human excellence among students and promoting the use of technology for a green environment.
