Workshop on awareness about Drug and substance abuse

The Youth Red Cross and NSS unit unit of Canara College in association with the Department of police Mangalore Main organized “Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse” on March 01, 2018 at Seminar Hall. The main aim of organising this programme was to create awareness among the Youth about Drug addiction and to educate them about their role in creating a healthy society.

The Chief guest of the programme Mr.Maruthi police inspector,Kadri Police station addressed the gathering regarding drug addiction. Mr Maruthi brought into notice that now-a-days there is increase in number of students who have become the victim of drug addiction. So, all the educational institutions should take necessary measures to create awareness among the students.In his address to the students he cautioned the students about the drug addiction and he stated in every 10 FIR filed relating to drug abuse, 4 victims are in the age group of 18-25 years.

Dr.Santhosh Prabhu, Department of Psychology KSHEMA, Mangaluru and Mrs. Lydia Lobo resource person for the programme  explained the seriousness of the problems with an examples. Dr.Santhosh Prabhu Psychiatrist from MAHE explained Psychological factors and behavioural problems among the Drug addicts. He also said how the peer group and the parents can play a vital role in solving such problems .They enlightened our students about the impact of drugs and stressed upon the ill effects of consumption of drugs and educated the students to be away from all these. It was an interactive programme with enthusiastic participation of the students. The programme was presided over by Dr.K.V.Malini, Principal of the college. 90 students from Youth Red Cross and NSS participated in this session. MsDhanya S Shet, Programme Officer of Youth Red Cross Unit and Prof Dejamma, NSS programme officer  were present in the session. Ms.Bindiya  compered  the programme.
