November 28, 2011

Prof Nagaraja Rao Javali (62), retired principal of the College, breathed his last on Sunday November 27 due to cardiac arrest. His end came at his home at Tirthahalli in Shimoga district, his native place.

He is survived by wife and a son.

Prof Javali, who joined Canara College as Kannada lecturer in 1973, served the college for nearly 35 years, including the tenure of last four years as Principal. He was popularly known for duty-consciousness, ready wit, mild manners, and simplicity. He retired in 2007. He had, during his stint at the college, been successful in implementing various new programmes and ideas in the functioning of the college.

Prof Javali was always engaged in literary and cultural activities, and used to organize programmes in the name of ‘Dasaja’, a group of likeminded friends. Literature, drama, painting, and computer science were his fields of interest.

The staff, students and the alumni  community grieves Prof Javali’s untimely death.
