The Department of Kannada, Canara College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, in collaboration with Canara Cultural Academy, organized the inaugural programme of Mangalore Mitra Mandali on 18 July 2026. The programme was conceived as a literary and cultural platform intended to bring together students, writers, teachers, artists, and literature enthusiasts and to create meaningful opportunities for dialogue, learning, and creative engagement.
The inaugural programme featured Smt. Chandrakala Nandavara as the chief guest. During her interaction with the participants, she discussed important dimensions relating to Mangalore Mitra Mandali, including its establishment, objectives, literary vision, journey so far, and the challenges encountered in sustaining a literary forum.
A significant part of the interaction focused on the role played by literary forums in identifying, encouraging, and nurturing literary talent. The discussion highlighted how such forums can provide emerging writers with opportunities for expression, interaction, critical appreciation, and constructive feedback.
The chief guest also spoke about the challenges faced by literary and cultural organizations, including the need to sustain public interest, create opportunities for young writers, maintain continuity in activities, and bring literature closer to the younger generation. Her reflections helped participants understand the commitment and collective effort required to build and sustain a literary movement. The programme brought together approximately 150 participants, including students, writers, teachers, artists, and literature enthusiasts. The presence of participants from different backgrounds created an atmosphere of literary exchange and cultural interaction. The inauguration therefore served not merely as the beginning of a forum but as an invitation to participate in a continuing culture of reading, writing, discussion, and creative expression. The activity promoted the core values of Contribution to National Development, Inculcating a Value System, and a Quest for Excellence amongst the participants
