Indian Knowledge System Cell

The Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Cell was established in Canara College (Autonomous) during the academic year 2026–27 as an important step towards creating awareness and meaningful engagement with India’s rich intellectual, scientific, cultural, and traditional heritage. The initiative is in line with the vision of NEP 2020 and the initiatives of the Ministry of Education and AICTE’s Indian Knowledge Systems Division, while moving forward within the framework of the State Education Policy. The Cell also brings together and builds upon the college’s existing activities related to literature, fine arts, culture, creativity, traditions, and heritage, giving them a broader academic direction.

The Cell aims to create opportunities for students and faculty to explore, understand, and critically engage with Indian Knowledge Systems through lectures, workshops, exhibitions, demonstrations, discussions, competitions, and other activities. It seeks to connect traditional knowledge with contemporary education, innovation, and everyday life, while encouraging students to appreciate its relevance to the present and future.

Objectives of the Cell

  • To create awareness and promote understanding of India’s diverse knowledge traditions.
  • To explore the contemporary relevance of Indian Knowledge Systems through academic and experiential activities.
