At Canara College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, an “Anti Addiction Drive (Awareness, Interaction & Counselling)” was meaningfully organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) units of the college in collaboration with Seva Bharati Karnataka, Mangalore University National Service Scheme, Keshava Smruti Samvardhana Samiti, Mangaluru, and Moolatva Foundation Charitable Trust, Mangaluru on April 25, 2026 at 9:54 am . The program was successfully conducted at Smt. Ratna S. Shenoy Memorial Seminar Hall, delivering meaningful and socially relevant messages. A total of 120 volunteers participated and benefited from the session.
The program was inaugurated by Mr. Nagaraj Bhat, Head of Seva Bharati Trust. In his address, he said, “Serving differently abled children is equal to serving God.” He emphasized that individuals should engage in good deeds, contribute to societal welfare, and avoid destructive habits. He expressed concern over the growing impact of drug addiction among youth and highlighted the role of NSS in guiding students toward a responsible and meaningful life.
The program was presided over by Prof. Dejamma A, Acting Principal of Canara College. She emphasized the value of life by referring to “Jeeva Kusuma” (Life as a Flower) and advised students to avoid momentary temptations that could damage their future. She stressed the importance of making wise decisions and having the courage to say “no” to harmful habits.The resource person, Dr. Kusum, Spiritual Therapist and Educational Counsellor, delivered an insightful session on the harmful effects of drug addiction. She explained the physical, psychological, and social consequences of substance abuse. The session was interactive and informative, creating awareness among students about prevention and recovery.
Other dignitaries present included Mr. Prakash Kotian, Founder of Moolatva Foundation Charitable Trust, NSS Programme Officers Mrs. Sushama C and Mrs. Smita M, NSS Student Conveners Mr.Yuvaraj and Ms. Shravya A Anchan and NSS Student Secretory Preksha. The program was compered by Ms. Abhigna. Shravya A Anchan delivered the welcome address, and Preksha proposed the vote of thanks. Following the inaugural session, Dr. Kusum conducted a detailed awareness session for NSS volunteers, highlighting the dangers of addiction and its impact on individuals and society. The programme strived to contribute to national development, foster global competencies and human excellence, and inculcate a strong value system among volunteers.
