Capacity Building Program on “Demystifying AI”Making Artificial Intelligence Simple, Practical, and Relevant

The Cell for Advanced Studies in Science and Technology of Canara College organised a Capacity Building Program titled “Demystifying AI”- Making Artificial Intelligence Simple, Practical and Relevant on September 20, 2025, in Smt. Ratna S Shenoy Memorial Seminar Hall. The event aimed at making AI more understandable and highlighting its practical applications for students.

Mr. Kartik S Mallya, Business Analyst and Co-Product owner, Standard Chartered Bank, Bengaluru, and Alumnus, BCA Batch 2011-14, was the resource person for the programme, and he led the session with great expertise. He explained the various categories of AI tools, helping participants grasp the diverse landscape of artificial intelligence. As part of the interactive session, Mr. Mallya practically demonstrated 5 AI tools, making the complex concepts of AI more accessible and tangible for the attendees. During the programme, Mr. Mallya also focused on various learning opportunities available for students interested in AI. He highlighted both free and paid courses that students can enrol in to deepen their understanding and skills in AI. Alongside the learning aspects, he touched upon the promising career opportunities in the field of artificial intelligence, likely inspiring students to explore AI further.

Principal Dr. Premalatha V presided over the event, underscoring the institution’s commitment to enhancing students’ capabilities in emerging technologies like AI. In her address, Dr. Premalatha V also emphasised the importance of using AI responsibly, cautioning against the misuse of the technology for harmful purposes.

Ms. Sania, Student Convenor, CASST, welcomed and introduced the guest and the gathering, while Ms. Sharanya, Student Convenor, CASST, proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Sourabha and Ms. Srusti of II B.Sc. rendered the invocation. The program was compèred by Ms. Manasvi, III BCA, adding to the smooth conduct of the session. Staff Convenors of the cell, Mrs. Prathima V Baliga and Mrs. Soujanya, were present and guided students in organising the program, reflecting the collaborative effort behind the event.

The session concluded with an engaging question and answer session, allowing participants to clarify doubts and delve deeper into aspects of AI discussed during the programme. A total of 72 students participated in and took the benefit of the programme.
