The inauguration of an add-on course focused on enhancing personality development and fostering collaboration among M.Com students

The Centre for Post-Graduation Studies in Commerce successfully hosted the inauguration of the Add-on course ‘Persona Edge’ on April 02, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. Designed for M.Com students, this program seeks to enhance personality development and encourage collaboration between First Year and Second Year students. The event was formally inaugurated by Dr. Premalatha V, Principal of Canara College, Mangaluru. In her address, she commended the innovative concept of the course, highlighting its dual benefit: enabling Second Year M.Com students to hone their presentation skills while providing First Year students with an excellent platform to learn from their seniors and strengthen their interpersonal skills.
The program was meticulously coordinated by Mrs. Swathi Nayak, faculty member and organizer of the add-on course, with enthusiastic support from the student community. Ms. Srilaxmi managed the role of Master of Ceremony with great poise, while Ms. Arpitha delivered the welcome speech, and Ms. Sharadhi concluded the event with a heartfelt vote of thanks. Thirty First Year M.Com students have enrolled in the course, reflecting its appeal and relevance. With a strong focus on promoting technology for a green environment and fostering a quest for excellence, ‘Persona Edge’ stands as an exemplary initiative for skill development and collaborative learning.

Day 1: Resource Person Ms. Sahana Shenoy
To enhance communication skills among First Year M.Com students, two engaging activities were conducted. The first, ‘Collaborative Storytelling’, involving teams working together to craft a cohesive story, fostering teamwork, mutual respect, and an appreciation for diverse perspectives. The second, ‘Find Someone’ to encourage individual students to interact with classmates, breaking initial awkwardness and building interpersonal connections. Both activities boosted confidence, participation, and communication skills, creating a positive and supportive learning environment for personal and academic growth.
Day 2: Resource Person Ms. Hruthika
A Group Discussion (GD) and SWOT Analysis session was conducted for First Year M.Com students to enhance their communication skills and self-awareness. The GD enabled students to improve their expression, active listening, and logical reasoning, while the SWOT Analysis helped them identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, fostering self-reflection and guiding them toward personal and professional growth.
Day 3: Resource Person Ms. Harshitha Mallya
The Conflict Management session for First Year M.Com students was conducted to enhance their ability to navigate and resolve conflicts effectively. The session encompassed key areas such as communication techniques, various conflict resolution styles, and collaborative problem-solving strategies. Participants engaged in discussions on identifying conflict triggers, the significance of active listening, assertive communication, and effective conflict resolution measures. The students demonstrated enthusiasm and actively participated in all activities, showcasing strong communication and listening skills that enriched the session. Their responsiveness and willingness to engage fostered a dynamic and meaningful learning environment.
Day 4: Resource Person Ms. Muddur Shrashti Nayak
A session on Time Management was conducted for a group of 27 enthusiastic students, fostering an engaging and interactive learning experience. The students exhibited exceptional energy and a keen interest in the subject, actively participating in various activities designed to enhance their understanding. Their enthusiasm and eagerness to apply the concepts discussed significantly contributed to the overall impact of the session. The interactive nature of the discussion, combined with their involvement, made the session highly meaningful and enjoyable, reinforcing the importance of effective time management in both academic and personal spheres
Day 5: Resource Person Ms. Amrutha G
To emphasize the importance of professional appearance, a session on the Dress Smart concept was conducted for the First Year M.Com students. The session highlighted how appropriate attire can positively influence first impressions, boost self-confidence, and reflect professionalism. Through interactive discussions and activities, students learned the significance of dressing appropriately for various formal and academic settings. The session encouraged students to be mindful of their personal presentation, contributing to their overall personality development and preparing them for future career.
Day 6: Resource Person Mr. Nikhil
As part of the Personal Development Program, a session on resume building was conducted on April 11, 2025, for First Year M.Com students to enhance their understanding of professional documentation and career preparedness. The session covered the importance and purpose of a resume, various commonly used formats, and strategies for creating an effective and professional document that highlights skills and achievements. Additionally, LinkedIn was introduced as a key platform for professional networking, with guidance on optimizing profiles for career visibility. To ensure active participation, an interactive activity was incorporated, fostering engagement and practical learning. The session was well-received, with students demonstrating enthusiasm and involvement, making it a valuable learning experience.
Day 7: Resource Person Ms. Anjana Baliga
A session on Interview Skills was conducted for M.Com (Previous) students to equip them with essential techniques and confidence for successful interviews. The session covered key topics, including the importance of interview skills in professional life, types of interviews, preparation strategies, commonly asked questions, and effective communication and body language. To enhance learning, interactive activities were incorporated, allowing students to engage actively, improve their communication skills, and build confidence in expressing themselves. The session was informative, engaging, and well-received, providing valuable insights into interview readiness. The interactive approach made learning enjoyable while reinforcing crucial concepts.
Day 8: Resource Person Ms. Vaishnavi V. Prabhu
As part of the Personality Development Program, a session on active listening was conducted for M.Com (Previous) students, with the primary objective of equipping them with essential communication skills and confidence. The session covered key aspects such as the introduction to active listening, its benefits, factors that hinder effective listening, and strategies for improvement, emphasizing its significance in both corporate environments and daily interactions. Engaging activities were incorporated to enhance listening skills, concentration, and confidence, thereby fostering better communication abilities among students. The session was well-received, proving to be both informative and interactive, with the activities adding an element of enjoyment to the learning experience. Overall, it was a valuable initiative, and sincere appreciation is extended to the M.Com Department for providing the opportunity to contribute to this meaningful program.
Day 9: Resource Person Mr. Abhilash
As part of the Personality Development Program, a session was conducted for 29 students focusing on self-awareness and interview readiness. The session began with a self awareness activity where students were asked to answer four reflective questions: Who am I, What makes me happy, Three words to describe myself and What I am good at. This was followed by a live interview demonstration to showcase real interview behaviour and response techniques. Towards the end, the class was divided into two teams, and one student from each team came forward to answer common interview questions in a mock setup. The session was reported to be interactive, engaging, and effective in boosting the students’ confidence and communication skills.
Day 10: Resource Person Ms. Niveditha Pai
The Social Sparks session served as a dynamic and engaging conclusion to the soft skills series for First Year M.Com students. Participants were organized into teams of five and tasked with completing 20 interactive activities designed to enhance their communication, leadership, and teamwork skills , and were required to create a vlog documenting the highlights of their experience, further refining their storytelling and digital presentation skills. The session proved to be both enjoyable and intellectually enriching. These exercises encouraged students to apply their knowledge in practical scenarios while fostering collaboration and innovative problem-solving. Additionally, each team was providing participants with a deeper appreciation of the significance of soft skills in academic and professional environments. The integration of task-based challenges and vlog creation not only stimulated enthusiasm and creativity but also cultivated a sense of camaraderie and accomplishment. Social Sparks effectively fulfilled its purpose, inspiring growth, connection, and confidence among all participants.
