ADD-ON COURSE EXCEL FOR STATISTICAL RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS

The Centre for Postgraduate Studies in Commerce organized the inauguration of the Add-on Course Excel for Statistical Research and Analysis on June 10, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. for Final-Year M.Com students. The event aimed to introduce students to the importance of statistical research and the practical applications of Excel in data analysis.
The resource person, Ms. Swathi Nayak, PG Coordinator, provided an overview of the course, explaining its syllabus and objectives to the participants. The Chief Guest of inauguration , Mrs. Soumya, Head of the Commerce Department, Sri Ramakrishna College, Mangaluru, emphasized how add-on courses enhance students’ resumes, comparing them to toppings that make plain ice cream more appealing. She also highlighted the growing significance of statistics in making informed decisions. The program was presided over by Mrs. Dejamma A., Head of the Commerce Department at Canara College, Mangaluru, who spoke about the importance of statistical analysis in dissertation work and career opportunities. The event was seamlessly conducted by the Master of Ceremony, Ms. Ananya. The event successfully introduced students to the relevance of statistical research, equipping them with valuable skills for academic and professional growth.

This 30-hour hands-on add-on course was offered to 21 Second Year M.Com students, aiming to equip them with practical skills in applying statistical techniques for academic research and professional decision-making. The curriculum covered a comprehensive range of topics, including: Course Overview, Introduction to Statistics and Basic Aggregations, Measures of Central Tendency, Measures of Dispersion, Correlation, Regression, Introduction to Research, Managing Research Data, Descriptive Statistics, T Test and Z Test, Chi Square Analysis, ANOVA.
The Valedictory Ceremony of the course was held on June 30, 2025. Certificates of participation were distributed by Sri CA M. Jagannath Kamath, Correspondent of Canara College, who graced the occasion with his presence.
