Rashtriya Ekta Diwas – National Unity Day 202 in commemoration of the 149th birth anniversary of Sri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was celebrated by the Institute on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 11:30 AM in Lecture Hall 5.
Dr. Ganesh Shetty U, Head, Department of Political Science, Canara College, was the chief guest. In his address, he eloquently highlighted the significance of the day, marking the 149th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the “Iron Man of India” and the Rashtra Rachaita (Unifier of the Nation). Dr. Shetty emphasized Patel’s critical role in the integration of the 562 princely states into the Indian Union after independence, underscoring his vision, strength, and determination to preserve India’s unity and territorial integrity despite its diverse cultures, languages, and traditions. He described Patel as a leader of immense character—simplicity, honesty, selfless service, and pragmatic wisdom—that continues to inspire generations of Indians.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Shetty shared personal experiences from his time in the armed forces, stressing the sacrifices made by soldiers to protect the unity of the nation. He urged the audience to reflect on these sacrifices and recognize the ongoing importance of unity, peace, and collective effort in building a stronger India. He reminded everyone that Sardar Patel’s leadership was not only about political strategy but also about the enduring values of discipline, integrity, and love for the motherland.
The Principal, Dr. Premalatha V., administered the Pledge for Unity and presided over the programme. In her Presidential address, she emphasized the vital role of unity in India’s diverse fabric, highlighting how it forms the cornerstone of our national identity. She urged the audience to reflect on the strength that comes from embracing our differences and fostering a sense of brotherhood. Her words encouraged everyone to appreciate the power of unity in shaping the collective future of the nation.
Mrs. Anasuya Bhagvath, IQAC Coordinator, welcomed the guest and the gathering. Mrs. Prathima V Baliga, IQAC Coordinator, extended heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the programme. Ms. Sinchana Shetty, Vice President, Students Welfare Council, compered the programme. Ms. Nisha and Ms. Shrinidhi, III BCA, rendered the invocation. Altogether, 51 students participated in the programme.
