In celebration of World Environment Day, the Can-Cabinet Student Welfare Council organised a Sapling Distribution Drive on March 6, 2024, at the Smt. Ratna S. Shenoy Memorial Seminar Hall. The program commenced with an invocation led by Ms. Vaishali and her team. Distinguished guests graced the dais, including CA M. Jagannath Kamath, President of the day and Correspondent of Canara College, Sri K. Shivananda Shenoy, Manager of Canara College, Dr. Premalatha V., Principal of Canara College, and Student Welfare Mentors Mrs. Babitha S., Mrs. Smitha M., and Mr. Avinash.
The Principal, Dr. Premalatha V., emphasized the importance of World Environment Day and the need to give back to the environment and society. In his presidential speech CA M. Jagannath Kamath, Correspondent, Canara College emphasized the criticality of environmental preservation. He drew attention to the dearth of green areas in the contemporary landscape, which is dominated by concrete, and he urged persistent efforts to increase awareness and encourage younger people to plant trees. He proposed extending the tree-planting efforts beyond Environment Day and launching a week-long campaign in the future.
Mr. Harshith, President of Can-Cabinet Student Welfare Council, welcomed the gathering. Ms. Tejashree Shetty, Vice-President of Can-Cabinet Student Welfare Council, proposed vote of thanks. Ms. Sambhrama R., Joint Secretary of Can-Cabinet Student Welfare Council, skilfully compered the event. On this occasion, various species of plants were distributed to the students, teachers and to the NSS unit of the college, symbolizing a collective commitment to environmental sustainability. The sapling distribution drive, attended by 64 students, was a successful and impactful event that marked World Environment Day with meaningful actions and fostered a culture of environmental responsibility.
