OBSERVANCE OF VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK – 2024

November 8, 2024

In consonance with the directions of the Central Vigilance Commission, Vigilance Awareness Week 2024, with its central theme “Culture of Integrity for Nation’s Prosperity,” was observed by IQAC of Canara College from October 28, 2024, to November 03, 2024. A formal awareness program of the same was held on Friday, November 08, 2024, in the Smt. Ratna S. Shenoy Memorial Seminar Hall.

Dr. Gana P Kumar said, “Integrity is the foundation of a prosperous and fair society. When we build a culture of integrity, we pave the way for economic growth, reducing socioeconomic inequalities and fostering equal opportunities. Throughout history, from the Hammurabi Code to India’s Arthashastra, and in modern times through anti-corruption laws like the Prevention of Corruption Act and Lokayukta Act, societies have emphasized the importance of integrity in governance. Nations worldwide, such as the UK with its anti-corruption strategies and Canada with its procurement codes, are taking action to prevent corruption for the benefit of society and sustainable development.

However, corruption remains a significant obstacle, as seen in recent incidents uncovered by the Lokayukta in Mangaluru. Corruption stifles innovation, wastes public resources, and results in substandard development, harming not only individuals but the country’s economy as a whole. As we observe Vigilance Awareness Week, let’s remember that promoting integrity strengthens our nation’s future, ensuring prosperity and opportunity for all.”

Mrs. Dejamma A., Principal In-charge & Head, Department of Commerce, Canara College, administered the Integrity Pledge for the organization. Mrs. Vani U S, Head, Department of Kannada, administered the Integrity Pledge for the organization and for the citizens and compared the program. CA M Vaman Kamath, Governing Council member, CHS Association, Mangaluru, presided over the programme and said, “Vigilance Awareness Week is a timely reminder of our collective responsibility to promote transparency, accountability, and integrity in all that we do. Let us use this week to reaffirm our commitment to ethical practices, recognizing that vigilance is not just an event but a way of life. Together, we can build a fairer, corruption-free society where trust and honesty guide every action.”

Mrs. Prathima V. Baliga, IQAC Coordinator, welcomed the guest and gathering. Dr. Ashakiran Pakkala, Head, Department of Physics, announced the prize winners of various competitions. Mrs. Anasuya Bhagvath, IQAC Coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks. The program concluded with singing the National Anthem.
