The Departments of Zoology and Botany jointly organized an expert talk titled “Career Opportunities: Exploring Pathways in Life Sciences” on May 20, 2025, from 9.15 am to 10.45 am in the Department of Botany. The session aimed to equip students with knowledge about the vast array of career options available in the realm of life sciences and to help them make informed decisions about their future academic and professional journeys.
The invited expert speaker, Dr. Sharath Chandra K, Lecturer, Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Biosciences, Mangalore University, Mangalagangothri, delivered an engaging presentation. In a comprehensive and interactive presentation, the speaker shed light on various career paths within the domains of botany, zoology, biotechnology, microbiology, environmental science, bioinformatics, pharmacology, agriculture, and wildlife conservation. Special emphasis was placed on the emerging fields such as genetic engineering, ecological restoration, climate science, and sustainable bio-entrepreneurship.
A major part of the session was dedicated to real-life success stories and career transitions, giving students practical insights into how to navigate challenges and remain adaptable in a rapidly evolving job market.
The expert also discussed soft skills, networking, and the importance of continuous learning in building a sustainable career in life sciences. The talk concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where students posed thoughtful questions and received valuable guidance and encouragement from the speaker.
The event was attended by 39 B.Sc (BZC) students of I, II, and III year, along with faculty members. It served as an eye-opener for many students who were previously unaware of the diverse opportunities that lie beyond conventional career choices
