For centuries, selfless service or Shramadaan, community service or a voluntary contribution towards community welfare, has been central to India’s social fabric and culture. Shramadaan is also related to dignity of labour. In alignment with the purpose of service, which is an important aspect of teaching and learning, Canara College has always encouraged shramadaan initiatives. One such volunteerism-driven extension activity was Shramadaan at Abettu, Bantwal.
On April 04, 2025, 19 NSS Volunteers of Canara College actively participated in a one-day extension activity at Abettu. The volunteers rendered shramadana in the construction of Mookshashraya, a house for Mrs. Leela Poojary, a beneficiary identified by Edukarunya Educational Charitable Trust. The team undertook the crucial task of leveling the already laid foundation for the house.
The activity was carried out under the supervision of the NSS Programme Officers, Mrs. M. Keerthana Bhat and Mrs. Sushama C., who motivated the students and ensured the smooth execution of the task. The work was conducted under the able guidance of Mr. Mohandas Markada, President of Edukarunya Educational Charitable Trust, who provided the necessary technical instructions and support throughout the day.
Our kind hearted NSS volunteers dedicated their time and skill thus contributing towards community service. Their act of altruism has left a lasting impact on the community. By recognizing the value of volunteerism, and fostering a culture of giving back, we can contribute to a future where economic and social development are truly inclusive and leave no one behind.
