The Association of Chemistry Teachers (ACT), Mumbai, in collaboration with the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai, has been organizing the Concept Test in Chemistry (CONTECH) since 2010 to evaluate the conceptual understanding of undergraduate chemistry students across the nation. This year, the second phase of CONTECH was scheduled for March 22, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
CONTECH is a national-level competitive examination for undergraduate chemistry students, based on the syllabus of a 3-year B.Sc. program offered by Indian universities. The Department of Chemistry at Canara College, Mangalore, took the initiative to conduct this exam for its students, with the objective of assessing their conceptual knowledge and identifying gaps in the chemistry curriculum. A total of 39 chemistry students from all three years of the B.Sc. program were registered for the exam by the college coordinator, Mrs. Roopashri K. P., Head of the Department of Chemistry. The examination was successfully conducted simultaneously in the botany and chemistry laboratories on the scheduled date and time. The students participated enthusiastically and appreciated the opportunity to test their knowledge on a national platform. Out of 39 students, 31 students cleared the exam by securing above 30%, and 3 students scored above 60%, and they will receive certificates from the Association of Chemistry Teachers (ACT), Mumbai.
