“CATCH THEM YOUNG”: An Outreach Programme

“Catch them Young” is an outreach programme aimed to engage and inspire high school students around Mangalore by demonstrating fascinating chemistry experiments. The Programme was organized by the Chemistry Department on January 16-17, 2025, for III BSc students. This initiative sought to enhance students’ interest in chemistry and broaden their understanding of chemical concepts through hands-on learning experiences. Thirteen chemistry students visited four schools in two different schools around Mangalore and demonstrated chemistry experiments to high school students.

The key activity involved conducting 10 chemistry experiments, carefully chosen to be engaging and educational. These experiments aimed to demonstrate fundamental chemical principles and spark students’ curiosity. Some of the key experiments included Hydrogen Balloon, Catch the Corrupt, Black Snack, Dancing Sodium, Elephants etc. The feedback was collected from participants to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme and the impact on students’ perceptions of chemistry.

The students visited the following four high schools in Mangalore:

1. Govt. High School, Mullakadu, Mangalore

2. Govt. High School, Kavoor , Mangalore

3. Vidyadhayini High School, Mangalore

4. Govt. high school, 7th Block, Katipalla, Surathkal
