February 2, 2024

With an intention to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge acquired in classrooms and its real-world application, the Centre for PG Studies in Commerce conducted an industrial visit to Baikampady Industrial Area on February 2, 2024. 30 students from M.com went on an industrial visit covering 3 industries, namely Kalbavi Consumer Foods Private Limited, S. R. Propellers, and Elite Engineering Industries.
The managers of all three industries visited gave insights about the workings of their companies. At Kalbavi Consumer Foods Private Limited, an introductory session was given by the factory manager. The students were briefed on the workings of the cashew factory, its production capacity, and its contribution to the local and global markets. The heart of the visit was the comprehensive tour of the cashew processing unit. Students were guided through each stage of the cashew nut processing, starting from the raw nut to the final packaging. The tour covered key processes such as cleaning, shelling, roasting, peeling, grading, and packaging. This hands-on experience allowed students to witness the precision and efficiency required in each step of cashew processing.
The S. R. Propellers second industry was visited by the students. The visit was filled with an informative introduction about the industry by the plant manager, followed by a brief overview of the company, its specialization in propeller manufacturing, and its position in the industry.
The third industry visited was Elite Engineering Industries. Here, the students observed the various stages of metal fabrication. The visit to this industry covered processes such as cutting, bending, welding, and assembly. Students gained an appreciation for the skilled craftsmanship involved in transforming raw materials into finished products, including structural components, sheet metal assemblies, and customized fabrications.
The visit provided students with the opportunity to interact with experienced professionals, including production managers and quality control experts. Engaging discussions covered topics ranging from market trends and challenges to the future prospects of the cashew processing industry.
The industrial visit to Baikampady Industrial Area proved to be a highly enriching experience for the students. They gained practical insights on the integration of technology and traditional methods. The visit not only enhanced their understanding of the subject but also inspired thoughtful discussions on sustainable practices and market dynamics within the cashew industry.
In conclusion, the industrial visit was a success in achieving its educational objectives. The exposure to real-world processes and interactions with industry professionals greatly contributed to the holistic learning experience for the students.
