A seminar on “Welfare Schemes for Landless Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Families” was organized by the SC/ST Cell of Canara College on 25 November 2025 at 3:30 PM in the Botany Laboratory. The objective of the programme was to create awareness among students about various governmental and institutional welfare schemes available for landless SC/ST families, and to encourage them to disseminate this knowledge within their communities.
The resource person for the seminar was Mr. Karthik, Convenor of the SC/ST Cell and Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science, Canara College, Mangalore. He provided a comprehensive overview of central and state government welfare initiatives aimed at improving educational access, financial stability, housing opportunities, and social upliftment for landless SC/ST families.
Mr. Karthik highlighted key schemes such as educational scholarships, financial assistance programs, housing grants, livelihood support initiatives, and skill-development opportunities. He emphasized the importance of creating awareness about these schemes so that eligible individuals can benefit effectively. The session was interactive, with participants engaging in discussions and seeking clarification on eligibility criteria and application procedures.
The seminar proved highly informative and beneficial to the attendees, enhancing their understanding of welfare measures and motivating them to contribute towards inclusive development. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person and the SC/ST Cell for organizing the session. Total of 23 students participated in the activity.
