Seminar on “Efficacy of constitutional safeguards in addressing the soci-economic disparities and discrimination faced by SCs and STs”

The SC/ST Cell of Canara College organized a seminar focusing on “Efficacy of Constitutional Safeguards in Addressing the Socio-economic Disparities and Discrimination Faced by SCs and STs”on November 04, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. at Smt. Ratna S. Shenoy Memorial Seminar Hall, Canara College, Mangalore. The session was conducted by the resource person, Dr. Ganesh Shetty, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Political Science.

Dr. Ganesh Shetty explained the historical background and objectives behind various constitutional provisions, including affirmative action, reservation policies, legal protections, and welfare measures established to uplift marginalized communities. He highlighted the need for strengthening awareness and implementation of these safeguards to reduce socio-economic disparities.

The seminar also addressed persistent challenges faced by SCs and STs in education, employment, and social mobility. The resource person emphasized the responsibility of youth in promoting equity, dignity, and democratic values. The session was interactive, with students participating actively and raising thoughtful questions regarding the practical application of constitutional measures.

The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff members. Total of 28 students participated in the program.
