OBSERVANCE OF VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK – 2023

November 2, 2023

In consonance with the directions of Central Vigilance Commission, Vigilance Awareness Week 2023 with its central theme “Say No to Corruption, commit to the Nation” was observed by IQAC of Canara College from October 26, 2023 to November 02, 2023. A formal awareness program of the same was held on Thursday, November 02, 2023 in the College Seminar Hall from 9:30am to 11:30am.

“The reason to celebrate Vigilance Awareness Week is to show our integrity and solidarity in building a strong corruption-free nation,” emphasized Sri. C. A. Simon, Lokayukta SP for Mangaluru Division, while addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest for the ‘Vigilance Awareness Week – 2023’ program.

Speaking on the theme: “Say No to Corruption, Commit to the Nation”, Sri. C. A. Simon articulated, “Taking bribe or favor, in cash or kind, all amount to corruption. If it is allowed to penetrate deeper into our system, it would corrode and paralyze our government. Corruption is an offence and unfortunately it is all-pervading. It has not only brought down the Human Development Index in our country, but also hindered the progress of many meritorious students.”

In order to weed out the scourge of corruption, Mr. Simon briefed about the existing laws, “Elimination of corruption is our duty and it lies in our hands. Anti-corruption laws, like Lokayukta Act, have been formulated to punish the culprit. RTI Act, too, has strengthened the governmental hands in this fight against corruption. He further added, “Your silence snatches away the rights of yourself and your near and dear ones. Multiple voices must be raised against corruption.” He also gave away the prizes to the winners of various competitions conducted on account of Vigilance Awareness Week.

The President of the Program, Dr. Premalatha V., Principal, Canara College and Dr. Kalpana Prabhu J., Head, Dept. of Hindi and Staff Welfare Secretary, Canara College administered the Integrity Pledge for the organization and for the citizens, respectively.
