Dr. S. R. RANGANATHAN’S DAY – 2023

Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan, an Indian Librarian and educator, is considered the father of Library Science in India. His contribution has worldwide influence and every year 12th August is celebrated as National Librarian’s Day.

National Librarian’s Day is celebrated in remembrance of Padmashree Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, who spearheaded library development in India. This day reminds the librarians their mission to work towards meeting the information needs of the people by proceeding high quality information system, the importance of library, and the vital role of a librarian in moulding and shaping the readers.

Library and Information Centre of our College celebrated Dr. S. R. Ranganathan’s Day on September 08, 2023 at 9:30am in the College Library. The program started with a prayer, followed by the welcome address to greet all the attendees and set the tone for the event. Prof. Anila, Principal, Canara Evening College was the Resource Person for this auspicious occasion. In her inaugural speech she highlighted some of Dr. Ranganathan’s significant contributions to the field of library. These include his “Five Laws of Library Science,” which are the fundamental principles for library management and the development of classification systems. Additionally, his emphasis on the importance of reading habits was mentioned, indicating the broader impact of his work on education and literature. 50 students attended the program.
