Blood Donation Camp

April 29, 2023

Blood donation is an essential and lifesaving practice that involves voluntarily giving one’s blood for the purpose of transfusion to individuals in need. It plays a crucial role in modern healthcare systems and has a profound impact on saving lives and improving public health.

On April 29, 2023, a blood donation camp was organized by the NSS, RRC, and YRC units of our college in collaboration with the Lions and Leo Club of Kadri Hills, MJF, Mangaluru, and Indian Red Cross Society, Mangaluru.

The formal function was inaugurated by CA Shantharam Shetty, Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society. In his inaugural speech, he said, “Man can create anything artificially, but blood cannot be artificially produced.” There is no substitute for blood. So, blood donation is a celebration of life. Students should understand its importance.

Guests of Honor for the programme were Sri Sanjay Shetty, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, and Lion Vijay Vishnu Mallya, Chief District Coordinator, Dist. Governors Programme. Lion Vijay Shetty, Lion Prashanth Pai, and Lion Pooja Pai were present during the programme.

The Correspondent of the college, Sri CA Jagannath Kamath, presided over the function. Dr. Premalatha V., Principal of the college, welcomed the gathering. The formal function ended with a vote of thanks by Ln. Sumithra V. Shetty, President, Lions & Leo Club, Kadri Hills, Mangaluru. The master of ceremony of the programme was Ms. Bhargavi Nayak, an NSS volunteer.

Upon arrival, potential donors were registered, and their basic information was recorded to maintain a database of donors. Each donor underwent a thorough medical examination to ensure they met the necessary eligibility criteria for blood donation. Hemoglobin levels, blood pressure, and other vital parameters were checked to ensure donor safety and the quality of donated blood. Eligible donors proceeded to the donation area, where experienced medical professionals collected blood using sterile techniques. Each donor was made comfortable, and the entire process took approximately 15 minutes per donor. After donating blood, donors were guided to a refreshment area where they were provided with snacks, beverages, and ample rest to regain their strength. Students from various classes along with faculty donated 93 units of blood, making this blood donation camp a grand success.

NSS and RRC Programme Officers Mrs. Seema Prabhu S. and Mrs. Vani U.S., and YRC Programme Officers Mrs. Smitha M. and Mrs. Roopashri K. P. coordinated this blood donation camp.
