50th Annual Sports Meet

Canara College celebrated its 50th Annual Sports Day on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Mangala Stadium. The program commenced with students from various classes marching energetically to the rhythm of the band, led by their respective captains. Dr. Gerald Santhosh D’Souza, the Director of Physical Education at Mangalore University, graced the occasion as the esteemed Chief Guest.

The Chief Guest was honored with a guard of honor and raised the college flag during the event. Mr. Avinash, the Physical Education Director of the college, escorted the dignitaries to the stage. The stage program began with a prayer invocation by the college prayer team, followed by a warm welcome address from Dr. Premalatha V., the Principal, who introduced the Chief Guests. The Sports Day was officially inaugurated as the dignitaries released doves as a symbolic gesture of peace. Mr. Krishna Karanth M., the Sports Secretary, administered the oath to the students.

Dr. Gerald Santhosh D’Souza, delivered the inaugural address, emphasizing the importance of parental encouragement for children’s participation in sports and the significance of physical fitness. Shri.CA M.Jagannath Kamath, the Correspondent of the college, spoke about the significance of physical fitness and the importance of sports. He concluded by extending his best wishes for the success of the event. The occasion was graced by K. Shivanada Shenoy, the Manager. The Sports Day featured a total of 11 events for both men and women, with Tug of War being the highly thrilling highlight.Altogether 637 students participated in the Sports Meet.

Mrs. Poornima, Convener of Sports Association, proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Priyanka, Department of Commerce and Management, compered the programme. Mr. Hari Krishna from II B Com B emerged as the winner of the Individual Championship in the Men’s section, while Ms. Dhani from I B Com B claimed the title in the Women’s section.
