Dr. Gopalakrishna N. Bhat, Former Principal, Canara College, was the Chief Guest and the erudite Key Speaker. In his discourse, he said “Gita Jayanti marks the propitious day of the advent of Srimad Bhagvad Gita, also called as the ‘Song of God’. It was on this auspicious day over 5,000 years back when the divine deity Lord Sri Krishna imparted the essence of Vedic knowledge, and recited the Gita to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra so as to enlighten him the ultimate goal of life. The quotes and verses in the Gita are based on how an individual should conduct one’s duty with complete righteousness. The Gita imparts vital values, realities, and duties of life. The heart of Hinduism lies in every word etched in the Bhagvad Gita. The holy text contains questions asked by a confused Arjuna and the responses given by Lord Sri Krishna. There are several lessons that we can learn from this ancient sacred Hindu scripture. Dharma i.e. sacred duty, disciplined action and self-knowledge are the core virtues we must try to incorporate into our daily lives. The teachings of Gita are broad, sublime and universal. They do not belong to any particular cult, sect, creed, age, place, or country. It is universal to all. ”

The Principal Dr. Premalatha V. in her presidential address said “Srimad Bhagvad Gita is a source of power and wisdom relevant to all, at all times. The Gita is not merely a holy book or just a scripture. It is a living voice carrying an eternally indispensible and vital message to mankind. It strengthens us when we are weak, and inspires us when we feel dejected and feeble. It teaches us to embrace the path of Dharma i.e., righteousness and to resist unrighteousness. Whenever we stray from the path or we are in confusion, the guidance from Gita helps us. The study of the Srimad Gita alone is sufficient to find in it a solution to all our problems. The more we study it with utmost devotion and faith, the deeper will our knowledge become, the more penetrative would be our insight, and the clear will be our thinking. Even if one lives in the spirit of any verse of the Gita, all our miseries will come to an end and we will truly attain the goal of life. Let us all strive to lead our lives taught by the Gita.”
