“Learn, Teach and Inspire” – An Initiative to Educate High School Students

Students of III BZC conducted extension activity under the guidance of Ms. Madhushree and Mr.Manohara. A, Department of Botany,  for high school students in different high schools in and around Mangalore. Students were divided into 5 groups and each group had to select one particular school and train the high School students in one particular aspect of Science. The two groups visited Besant High School,Kodialbail, Mangalore on January 04 and February 18, 2020. The topic chosen was “Plant pathology and crop improvement”. One of the great challenges for food security is to improve yield stability through the development of disease-resistant crops. Our students discussed the methods to prevent and to control the plant diseases and crop improvement. The next two groups visited B.E.M High School, Kasaragod on January 16, 2020. The topic chosen was “Ecosystem”. Ecology is the scientific study of interaction between organisms and their environment. Our students described the mutual relationship between the organisms with different habitats. One group visited D.K. ZillaPanchayath High, school, Mullakad, Kavoor, Mangaloreon January 16, 2020. The topic chosen was “Photosynthesis and respiration in plants”. The cycle of photosynthesis and respiration maintains the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide. students explained the Mechanism of photosynthesis and Respiration. Some of the hands on experiments were also carried out. Our students also created awareness towards the present burning social issues such as environmental pollution, water conservation, and forest conservation; prevent plant cuttings & protecting our oxygen.
