Seminar on ‘Stress-Free Teaching and Happy Living’

October 4, 2018

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) through the Staff Welfare Association organized a seminar on “Stress-Free Teaching and Happy Living” on October 04, 2018 in the College Seminar Hall. Ms. Shailaja Kamath, from Art of Living, Mangaluru, was the key resource person.

Ms. Shailaja Kamath while addressing said – “Teachers are usually very good at thinking about the well-being of their students. In the course of this concern, they tend to think less about their own well-being – until it is too late. Further, ones who take on caring roles are often not good at looking after themselves. Therefore, it is vital that as teachers you manage your own well-being, as you cannot manage students and teaching-learning if you cannot manage your own selves. Taking and finding time to manage your stress is utmost essential in order to teach effectively.”

As take away for stress-free teaching and happy living, she suggested the following :

  • Work on priority basis.
  • Don’t over react or be over sensitive towards anything.
  • Think before you commit.
  • Move on – Don’t dwell on past mistakes.
  • Don’t bottle up anger and frustrations.
  • Set aside time each day for recreation activities of your choice.
  • Take your time and plan well for ahead.
  • Avoid being aggressive on the road.
  • Be optimistic and thoughtful.
  • Focus on what is in your control.

Principal Dr. K. V. Malini in her message said – “Teaching is about managing relationships in an intense, public arena all day. Some emotions will be overwhelming and some difficult to manage.

When we are stressed and tired out, we are not thinking or teaching at our best. Hence, we need practical strategies for dealing with our stress and thereby manage our well-being.”

Staff Welfare Secretary Mrs. Pushpalatha delivered the welcomed address and also introduced the speaker. IQAC Coordinator Dr. Premalatha V., proposed the vote of thanks.

The seminar boosted morale to live a life blended with joy, passion and vigor. Thus, be the best at what one intends to do.
