April 5, 2013

The Centre for Women and Gender Studies was inaugurated on 13th February 2013. Dr. Kishori Nayak K., Director of Mangalore University’s Centre for Women Studies, Inaugurated the Centre.

Inaugurating the Centre, Mrs. Nayak said the establishment of the Centre itself points out to the fact that there is no gender equity in the society and hence there is a need to study why it is happening so. There is a need to question to what extent we have managed to get gender equity.

She also said that the work done by women had been highly devalued. Due weightage was not being given to the household work done by women. There is a need for gender awareness and sensitivity among boys. The diploma courses on women and gender studies are getting a lukewarm response from students. Courses on women studies should be open for men too.

CA S.S.Kamath, President of CHS Association, presided over the function. Principal Prof. M. Satish Bhat, Student Welfare Officers Prof. H. Manohar Shetty and Dr. K.V.Malini were present on the occasion.
