Walk for Bharat – A Walkathon

The NSS Unit of Canara College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, in association with NSS, Mangalore University and Disha Bharat, organized “My Bharat – A National Youth Campaign Imbuing Patriotism: Walk for Bharat – A Walkathon” on August 8, 2026 as part of the observance of the 80th Independence Day and Swachhata Awareness. The programme aimed to promote patriotism, national unity, social responsibility, swachata awareness and a healthy lifestyle among youth.
The walkathon was flagged off by Dr. Premalatha V., Principal, Canara College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, at 8:30 a.m. from the college campus. The walkathon proceeded through the designated route and concluded at T. V. Raman Pai Convention Centre, Mangaluru.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Lathesh Bakrebail, General Secretary, Akhila Bharathiya Sahitya Parishat, Dakshina Kannada. His address highlighted the importance of patriotism, national unity, responsible citizenship and the active participation of youth in nation-building.
Renowned Kannada actor, director and choreographer Mr. Swaraj Shetty graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. His presence encouraged and motivated the young participants to actively contribute to society and uphold the values of patriotism and social responsibility.
Around 750 students, including NSS volunteers of Canara College and students from Zones 1 and 2 of Mangalore University, participated enthusiastically in the walkathon. The participants carried messages promoting cleanliness, unity, patriotism, social responsibility and responsible citizenship, thereby creating awareness among the general public along the route.
The walkathon served as a meaningful platform to engage youth in promoting positive social values and to encourage them to contribute towards building a cleaner, healthier, united, responsible and stronger Bharat. The programme also emphasized the role of young citizens in strengthening national unity and contributing to the development of the nation.
The event was successfully led and coordinated by the NSS Programme Officers, Mrs. Sushama C. and Mrs. Smitha M., with the active participation and support of NSS volunteers and students. The programme concluded successfully with a strong message of patriotism, unity, cleanliness and responsible citizenship among the youth.
