The Women Empowerment Cell of Canara College, Mangalore, organized a workshop on Self-Defence Training in the Seminar Hall on March 03, 2026, from 1:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the aim of equipping students with essential self-defence skills and promoting awareness about personal safety. The session was led by Mr. Karthik S. Kateel, CEO and Founder, Swaraksha for Women Trust®, an experienced trainer who served as the resource person for the workshop.
He started the session by explaining the significance of awareness, confidence, and quick decision-making in potentially unsafe situations. He emphasized that self-defence is not only about physical strength but also about presence of mind and alertness.
During the practical session, the trainer demonstrated several basic self-defence techniques that can be used in real-life situations. These included methods to escape from wrist grabs, techniques to defend against sudden attacks, and strategies to maintain balance and protect oneself.
A total of 95 students benefited from this programme. The session was coordinated by Mrs. Vinoda V. Nayak and Mrs. Adithi A. Nayak, Convenors of the Women Empowerment Cell.
