WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION 2026 & MAHILA MARKET

Canara College (Autonomous), Mangaluru celebrated International Women’s Day 2026 on March 09, 2026, at Smt. Ratna S. Shenoy Memorial Seminar Hall. The programme was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Women Empowerment Cell of the college, in association with Rotary Mangaluru Metro, to recognize and celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women.

Dr. Premalatha V., Principal of the college, delivered the welcome address and greeted the gathering. The Chief Guest, Ms. Ashwini Kamath, Governing Council Member, C.H.S. Association, Mangaluru, addressed the gathering and spoke about the resilience, strength, and achievements of women in various fields. She highlighted that women perform multiple roles in society and emphasized that women should not wait for opportunities but rather create opportunities for themselves through determination, confidence, and hard work.

Mrs. Surekha Kini, President of Rotary Mangaluru Metro, conveyed her Women’s Day greetings to the gathering and appreciated the initiatives taken to promote women’s empowerment. CA M. Jagannath Kamath, Correspondent of the college, delivered the presidential remarks and stated that women are already empowered and play a vital role in shaping society. He also extended his greetings on the occasion.

The programme was graced by the presence of Sri Shivananda Shenoy, Manager of the College, and Administrator Dr. Deepthi Nayak. The dignitaries also inaugurated the Mahila Market, a special initiative that provided a platform for women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products.

A total of 96 students along with staff members actively participated in the inaugural programme. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, general public and several women entrepreneurs who had set up stalls at the Mahila Market. The programme served as an inspiring platform that highlighted the achievements of women and encouraged students to appreciate their role in society.

Overall, the programme successfully celebrated the spirit of womanhood, promoted awareness about women’s empowerment, and provided meaningful exposure to students through interaction with inspiring personalities and women entrepreneurs.
